More About Me

A Little Information About Me

Board Certification

I began in the healthcare field by receiving my degree in pharmacy at the University of Kentucky. From there, I completed medical school at Emory University and my residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. I returned to NC to practice ophthalmology as a board-certified ophthalmologist. I began treating patients with hemifacial spasm with botulinum toxin (BOTOX® sparked my interest in the cosmetic realm). I decided to pursue a fellowship in cosmetic dermatology to broaden my training and expertise. I accepted a fellowship in La Jolla, California, with world-renowned cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Mitch Goldman and completed a research and clinical fellowship under his guidance in 2007. Since that time, I have dedicated myself to cosmetic dermatology, including aesthetic lasers and injectables.

Advanced Training

My fellowship in San Diego was a pivotal year. Core concepts of cosmetic dermatology were practiced on a daily basis, encompassing dermal fillers, injectables, and laser technology in its application in treating vascular issues, pigment, collagen, and fat. I participated in clinical trials and laser research and went on to publish papers on fractional laser technology, laser lipolysis, and alexandrite lasers. I have continued with clinical research, writing and lecturing in my own private practice.

Expertise in Lasers and Injectables

Since 2014, I have been an active participant on the medical advisory board for Cynosure (the largest aesthetic laser company globally), where input is given on laser design, ergonomics, nomograms, and other aspects of laser science. My clinical experience on a multitude of laser platforms has opened invitations to lecture both internationally (France, Spain, Germany, Dubai, Holland, Cyprus, China, England, and Canada) and nationally in just about every state in the U.S. I am passionate about educating others on laser science, dermal fillers, and neurotoxins. It is a time to share information with colleagues while equally learning from them. This forces me to stay relevant, reading through the latest journal articles and staying current on the latest treatment options. The great news is that this translates into better information to share with my patients so that they receive the best in care.

My Passion for Cosmetic Dermatology

The best way to sum it up is that I feel an immense amount of gratitude for being able to walk into work every day and help patients regarding their cosmetic needs. Whether it is removing the pigment from the back of a golfer's hands, treating a spider angioma on a child who is about to take a kindergarten photo, removing a regretful tattoo, minimizing the belly fat in a post-menopausal female, or revolumizing a mother who is planning her daughter's wedding, I love the smiles that come with the end result. Technology is moving at such a fast pace, and it is exciting to read, learn, and provide care for patients on a daily basis. I truly feel blessed to have an amazing staff that continues and completes the full spectrum of care by assisting me and taking the time to schedule, discuss, and help answer your questions. Beauty exists, no question. It would be my honor to enhance yours.
