IPL Treatments

MAX G for the Face, YS for the Chest—Targeted Light-Based Rejuvenation by Dr. Saluja

At Saluja Cosmetic and Laser Center, all IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments are performed personally by Dr. Minni Saluja, a fellowship-trained cosmetic dermatologist with extensive expertise in laser and light-based rejuvenation. We use both MAX G and YS handpieces to treat unwanted pigmentation, redness, and signs of sun damage—with precision tailored to each treatment area.

Because IPL interacts with melanin (pigment in the skin), we recommend scheduling treatments primarily during the fall and winter months (October through April) when natural sun exposure is lower. This allows for better outcomes and reduces the risk of unwanted pigment changes in recently tanned skin.

We proudly serve patients throughout Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, Mooresville, and the greater Lake Norman area.

What Is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of broad-spectrum light to improve tone, texture, and clarity. It works by delivering light below the surface of the skin, targeting:

Mild to moderate sun damage

Redness and broken capillaries

Rosacea-related flushing

Uneven tone from aging or environmental exposure

Dr. Saluja selects the best handpiece based on your treatment area

MAX G for the face

Effective for brown spots, redness, and vessels

YS (Yellow Spectrum) for the chest

Designed for thinner, more sensitive skin and sun-induced redness in the décolletage

Why We Avoid IPL on Recently Tanned Skin

Tanned skin contains higher levels of melanin, which can interfere with how IPL energy is absorbed. This can increase the risk of:

Hyperpigmentation

(skin darkening in unintended areas)

Hypopigmentation

(light spots from pigment loss)

Blistering or Irritation

due to heat absorption in the upper skin layers

To protect your skin and ensure optimal results, we recommend avoiding IPL treatment if your skin is recently tanned from sun exposure or self-tanner. Treatments are best performed when your natural skin tone is stable—typically during the cooler months when sun exposure is minimal.

What to Expect

Sessions last approximately 20–30 minutes

You may feel a warm snapping sensation with each light pulse

Mild redness or darkening of pigment may occur and naturally fade within days

Minimal downtime—most patients return to daily activities the same day

Dr. Saluja will create a personalized treatment plan, including recommendations for the number of sessions needed based on your goals.

Is IPL Right for You?

IPL may be a great option if you:

Have pigmentation, redness, or visible sun damage

Want to treat the face and/or chest with minimal recovery

Prefer a non-invasive solution for clearer, more radiant skin

Are not recently tanned and can avoid UV exposure before and after treatment

During your consultation, Dr. Saluja will evaluate your skin type and tone to ensure IPL is a safe and effective fit for you.
